So, what we have is the need to exercise, the equipment necessary to exercise, and the space required, but it turns out to be insufficient ... from the female point of view.
My wife couldn't feel the motivation necessary to begin the trek of losing weight because of the mess in my office. I offered to commence the clean up and organization of the mounds of papers, bills, etc., but again that seemed to not be satisfactory. It quickly dawned on me that I wasn't going to get my way with this.
So, our storage room became the target of Martha of the North. She had a project and nothing was going to stop her.
The first step was determining which items would stay (to be neatly stacked at the back wall of the room) and which should be thrown out. I realized, that what we were in fact doing was a Spring Cleaning ... in January!
Ooooooh, she's a crafty one, she is!
Since it is a storage room (and looks like a storage room), the inspiration necessary to promote exercising, regardless of how clean THIS room would ever be, wasn't enough. It had to be pretty!
Unused curtains were rummaged from the uppermost floor of the house and hung across the rafters. The curtains had 2 functions - hide the crap we kept and had stacked against the back wall and to create a calming atmosphere.
Next came the strategic placement of the treadmill. I think Feng Shui was used, but I'm not sure. The logic baffled me. A guy would lug in the treadmill, stop once he got in the room, and if it seemed to be in an okay position (ie, kinda away from the walls/windows, etc., but still in the sight line of the plasma TV that was going to be mounted on the wall) then it was left there. Women have to plan the layout - ensure the "flow" of the room isn't affected - or else it just won't work.
Two chairs were brought in. Not sure exactly why, but now we can change our shoes in comfort.
Finally, aside from wanting a new rug, a large mirror from the family room was hung in a strategic spot whereby my wife can watch herself walking on the treadmill. I'm not sure why that was important ... something about making the room seem bigger and being more effective on the treadmill ... but alas, it's now occupying a space in the storage - excuse me - exercise room.
As for me, I'm using the facilities at work. As long as I can watch Sports Desk while "working out", I'm good.
