A Voice from the Past

Got a nice surprise today - a phone call from a friend with whom I'd had a falling out with.

Almost 2 years ago, while playing poker at a another friend's place, my distant buddy proceeded to get a little tipsy. He got angry over something innocuous and as the night unfolded and more drinks were quaffed, his anger grew. Everyone, including myself were targets. Needless-to-day the rest of the evening didn't go well.

The next day, he felt like he was the victim and the rest of us were waiting for apologies.
Sometimes you have to put aside pride. It's not always a case of who's at fault and what was or wasn't said or done. We missed this couple's friendship and with the imminent arrival of their second girl, my wife decided it was time to re-establish contact.

Water under the bridge.

It was nice to immediately find out that they too had missed our friendship too and had been looking to call us up. So, the women had been in contact with each other ... it was time for the guys to grow some balls and have a talk. I'm glad we did.

They've come a long way since our parting of ways and now find themselves proud owners of their first home, two lovely girls, and a job that is paying huge dividends for their family. It's nice to see that his hard work, after finding this job while newly graduated from college, has paid off. He's now the second most senior salesman in the company, which has grown from 22 (I believe that's what he said) to over 60 people and is extremely profitable. His base pay, commission, and profit sharing figures have rewarded him well.

Congrats!

As for me, I'm still without employment. Resumes continue to go out without feedback. I've come to believe that companies in other parts of the country aren't looking at candidates outside of their regions. So, I'm concentrating on the GTA - Greater Toronto Area - and with the UN. I now have applications in for 1 job in Rome, 2 in Geneva, and 6 in New York. All are either P-3 or P-4 positions.

Fingers crossed.

Still waiting for word on the consulting contract. The RFP - Request for Proposal - was responded to in a timely fashion ... it's now just a waiting game.

Fingers crossed.
