Houston, We Have Interest

I put in an application for a job with CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) in Ottawa yesterday. It's a Senior Procurement Advisor, International position with focus on Asia. It was listed by a Head Hunting firm and is a consulting position that would be an "as/when required" basis. It has a three year term to it and I searched the government's e-bid website and noticed that the Asia Branch is looking for a LOT of consultants in a wide variety of specialties, so they're obviously expanding their section due to requirements.

So, that could mean it could be steady work.

It's a little bit of a stretch, as some of the position's functions and responsibilities are things I've never done, but there's so many job functions that echoed what I did both in the Canadian Forces and United Nations, that I felt it was a good match. I applied via workopolis.com, but this morning I felt that that submission didn't really give my resumé a fair shake - it seemed my career info was "chopped up". This morning I noted a direct email to the individual in the firm looking after this position and decided to follow up my internet application with an email providing my full resumé.

Guess it was a good thing to do. I just got an email from this lady at the firm saying, "You have a very impressive resume. I will get a copy of the mandatories and give you a call at your number."

GULP!!!!

Now I've got to prepare myself for an interview quicker than I thought I'd have to. I'm not sure what the mandatories will be, but the listing didn't say "Bilingual Imperative", so that's good!
