"The Toughest Work ... "

"The toughest work you'll ever have to do is finding a job."

I'm sure I've paraphrased the quotation somewhat and I'm not really sure who originally said it, but it's so true. Especially when you're middle-aged and your career doesn't fit into what companies are quite looking for with regards to education and professional accreditations. But, such is life. You keep going.

So ends another week waiting for this consulting gig to commence. My buddy is still being "jerked" around by the government. Despite assurances that the bid would be posted on the government website, he found out Friday that the government officials still wanted some information from him ... despite the fact that he'd already provided all that to them previously. I did my time in the government (and amazingly I'm looking to potentially get back in with them), so I know how bureaucratic they can be. This whole thing should have started over a month ago.

Breathe deeply.

I managed to farm out a bunch of résumés last week - Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa, the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), and Rome (with the UN). Somethings bound to connect. I'm excited about the Rome one, as I'm very qualified for it. Of course the one downside to getting that job ... what the hell am I thinking? ... there is no downside!?!?

I'll keep plugging away, try to maintain a positive outlook, and hopefully the consulting gig will start soon.
