I'm finally going to get off my butt and do something about this invention I've devised that'll make me millions!!!
No I can't tell you what it is ... you'll just steal it!! Suffice to say, I truly believe (and for those who know me ... I'm a very, very realistic person) this is something worthwhile and that can and will be used by a lot of people - in the applicable industry and DIYers.
The first of many, many steps is to actually come to my senses and realize how difficult this is going to be and that I'm not going to be able to put my full time behind the project. It's going to be a "little bit here" and a "little bit there" approach.
This idea came to me, actually, on Saturday, 14 August 2004. Don't laugh, I kept track of the date with my concept drawing. I remember reading that the US Patent Office, in cases of identical patent submissions will award based upon who came up with the concept the earliest. There's more to it, but that's the basics. So, I diligently recorded this fact.
It came to me while my wife and I were lounging in the backyard on a hot and sunny day. It's funny that I actually came up with a thought about inventing a new product, because it was about a few weeks earlier that my wife came up with her own product while watching a baseball game on TV. We remarked how we should come up with the next "Pet Rock" or those potato chip bag clips ... the next big thing!
We talked it out a bit, but I developed the initial concept of an invention right then and there!! I felt like Alexander Graham Bell or the Wright Brothers ... not that my product will revolutionize our society as we know it, but it'll make a lot of people happy - myself included!!
I thought I had my first opportunity to getting on the proper path to bringing my idea to fruition, when I was told by M.M. the Bartender (who's a golf pro, CEO of the US's 4th largest carpet manufacturing company, President of a warehousing/logistics company owned by both his father and himself, soon to be the owner of a 36-hole golf course [to begin construciton in 2008], AND an inventor of a golf training product that's due to come out next year) that his father retains a man on his staff who's sole job was to take the father's ideas and make them come to life!
M.M. the Bartender passed on all my contact details to this man so I could get an understanding of what I need to do next and (hopefully) who could help me. Unfortunately, no sooner had this gentleman come back from doing a job for the father than he was sent off to Australia to manage requirements there. So, there went my first real good source of info.
So, I just bought myself a book - The Inventor's Bible by Ron Docie, Sr. - and will educate myself initially this way. I've also learned that there's an Inventor's Alliance of Canada that meets every 2nd Tuesday every month. I plan on seeing if I might not make their meeting in August - that'll give me time to organize myself a bit and be in a better position to present my questions, etc.
We'll see how things progress. I'll update things as they happen, but from what I've read so far ... this is going to be a long, drawn out process.
