DVDs - The Desert Isle Collection

Everyone creates these types of lists and even though I'm not one to follow what everyone does, this seems like a fun thing to do. So, my first listing will be DVDs, selected from the multitude that I own, I'd want if stranded on a desert isle ... okay, okay ... stranded WITH a power source, DVD player, and a TV. ;-)
These aren't in any particular order:

1. Band of Brothers - Each and every disc in the collection. One of the greatest (and my most favourite) mini-series of all time. Having the real members of Easy Company "introduce" each episode and discuss the events in the documentary featurettes twists mightily at the heart strings. Tom Hanks/Stephen Spielberg produced.

2. Saving Private Ryan - Staying with the WWII theme - the first movie that ever caused me to hold my breath during the first 15 minutes of the film. Another Hanks/Spielberg effort.

3. The Shawshank Redemption - That one movie, for me, that whenever I'm flicking through the channels and happen across this flick, I always stop and watch it through to the end. I was shocked to find out it was based on a Stephen King novella.

4. Sense and Sensibility - Yup, a "chick flick" - no offence meant! It's a brilliant movie with superb acting by the whole ensemble. Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, and Hugh Grant all give great performances.

5. Love Actually - Heh, another "chick flick" ... with Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, and Emma Thompson. One of Hugh's best. Watch for the hilarious performance of Bill Nighy as a washed-up Rock star.

6. Serenity - The very entertaining movie based on the excellent, but very short-lived TV series Firefly. The movie was as good as, if not a little bit better than, the TV series and allowed those who'd never seen the show the ability to understand the basics of how the crew was formed. They should never have cancelled the series.

7. Finding Nemo - Yes, you read that correctly ... probably one of the funniest animated movies out there. If you didn't laugh at Dory (Ellen De Generes) then there's something wrong with you.

8. The Rundown - Who knew Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson could act? And do comedy!? This is a very fun movie from start to finish. I'm not a huge fan of Seann William Scott (American Pie fame), but he was probably THE best choice to play alongside of The Rock.

9. The Last Samurai - Tom Cruise - he's the Don Cherry (for those of you Canadians reading this) of the movie industry ... you either love him or hate him. I loved him in this movie, but in many ways this movie was Ken Watanabe's movie. He was absolutely brilliant.

10. Fight Club - First rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club. Edward Norton - 'nuff said.

Honourable Mentions

I'd be interested in reading what your picks are.
